Memorial Scholarship

Purpose:  To perpetuate the memory of Bede F. and E. Marie Williams while recognized a deserving student by awarding at least one scholarship annually to a Kearney Catholic High School senior who will be pursuing a business related degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in the fall semester immediately following graduation.

Scholarship Mechanics:  The following criteria shall be used in the administration and awarding of the Bede F. and E. Marie Williams Memorial Scholarship.

• One scholarship shall be awarded each year to a Kearney Catholic High School senior who will be pursuing a business related degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in the fall semester immediately following graduation.
• Applications for the scholarship shall be made available through the guidance counselor’s office at Kearney Catholic High School by March 15 of each year.
• Deadline for completed applications shall be April 15 of each year.
• Awarding of the scholarship shall be based on the following criteria:
• Recipient must possess high moral values, integrity, concern, and honesty…virtues exhibited by Bede F. and E. Marie Williams in their personal and professional life.
• A minimum high school grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Special consideration will be given to the financial need of the applicant.
• The selection committee will select a recipient and one alternate.  Should the recipient be unable to utilize the scholarship during his/her first semester following high school graduation, the alternate will be awarded the scholarship.  If neither the recipient of first alternate is able to utilize the scholarship during the first semester immediately following graduation the immediate family of Bede F. and E. MarieWilliams may award the scholarship based on other criteria or choose to award the scholarship in future years.
• At least one scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 will be awarded annually. 
• Should no applicants for the scholarship be submitted, the immediate family of Bede F. and E. Marie Williams may choose to award the scholarship on other criteria or reinvest the scholarship proceeds into the Bede F. and E. Marie Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund.
• If for some reason a Catholic high school, junior high school, or elementary school not be present in Kearney, all Bede F. and E. Marie Williams Memorial Scholarship Funds will be donated to the Catholic Diocese of Grand Island, Nebraska for awarding of the scholarship to graduating Catholic seniors in the Diocese following similar guidelines.
• Awarding of the scholarship shall be announced at Kearney Catholic High School Honors Program each year or at another suitable occasion by a member of Bede F. and E. MarieWilliam’s family or their designate.
